Biography

Amanda T. Dickerson

Amanda T. Dickerson is a native of Long Island, New York. At an early age, she moved with her family to Philadelphia where she began pursuing her artistic interests.

As a young creative Amanda became obsessed with art and fashion and was strongly influenced by the urban vibe in Philly. She began tagging and producing various forms of street art but felt a pull toward more diverse work. She made a life-changing decision to leave school at sixteen and move back to the NYC area.

Within a year of her return, she was producing large sculptures, paintings, digital art, and prints. Architecture, along with art and fashion, began to inform her aesthetic. By 2009 Amanda was engaged professionally with graphic design, exhibition, and art fair production. Exhibition of her own fine art soon followed.

Showing in New York and Miami lead to the opportunity to participate in a collaborative live performance piece, Tiger Training for Beginners, in London. The following year she was invited to participate in Detroit MONA’s (Museum of New Art) exhibition, Documenta USA. All of the pieces from the project are now housed in the museum’s permanent collection.

Still strongly influenced by contemporary urban culture, Amanda is now an avid horticulturist and mother of twin boys who now incorporates her botanical interests into her art. She is the founder of Pink and Green Inc. design studio. Amanda currently resides in Brooklyn, actively producing her art with a strong digital presence and an emphasis on site specific pieces.

Artist Statement

As a long-time resident of both NYC and Philadelphia, I draw strong inspiration from my urban surroundings. I am inspired by urban energies, locations, and industrialism, by the things that compose these areas: architecture, fashion, community, and art.

More recently, I have become obsessed with all things green, botany, and horticulture now strongly inform my aesthetic as well. I love juxtapositions, sometimes unexpected, but hopefully always harmonious. I am equally excited by concepts and processes! I create my juxtapositions using a combination of analog and digital collage techniques. Prior to composing each work, I strongly consider the environment and situation in which the piece will eventually be viewed and “build” accordingly. I continue to enjoy producing work for public consumption and hope that each piece invokes an emotional response in the viewer.
